Our Junior team has created history by winning the County league final in a thrilling encounter with Millstreet in Cloghduv on Tuesday evening last.

Despite the blistering heat this game proved just as exciting as anticipated in front of a large crowd.

The game began at a fast pace and it was Una who registered the first point from a placed ball. This was followed by excellent points from Eleanor and Imelda before Millsteet raised the first green flag of the game, in result of a free.

The pace of the Banteer half back line of Vicky, Gemma and Rosie proved essential to hault the Millstreet attack.

Banteer's first goal came form the skillful Karen receiving the sliotar on the 21 yard line and blasting it to the back of the net. This led to a great drive for Banteer before the half time whistle, with Shelly cutting through the Millstreet defence to score her first point, while forwards Lisa Howard and Mairead Weathers continued to cause problems for Millstreet.

Minutes before the whistle a diligent Imelda, got on the end of a breaking ball on the edge of the square to score a second goal for Banteer.

Half time score Banteer 2-4 Millstreet 1-3.

On resumption, Millstreet reduced the lead to 1 point registering a goal minutes after the clash. Banteer once again found their rhythm, with points coming from Lisa, Aine and Una, before corner forward Aisling found the back of the net for Banteer. The solid full back line of Elaine, Kate and Marie continued to clear the danger zone throughout the game.

Again Millstreet clawed their way back scoring a goal from a 21 yard free. The re-introduction of Floss proved significant sending her first touch of the sliotar to the back of the net.

Banteer finished out the game on a high with Shelly scoring a huge point from the 65 and Una launched a dangerous ball into the square that was flicked to the net by Imelda Vaughan. A late surge from Millstreet wasn't enough as Banteer held their lead of 3 points till the final whistle thanks to some great saves from keeper Niamh.

Final score Banteer 5-9 Millstreet 4-9

The cup was present to a proud Banteer captain Rosie Twohig who thanked the trainers Donal Roche and Damien Kearney for the work and effort they've put into the team, she also thanked the sponsors and everyone involved in the club.
