On the double for BRILLIANT BANTEER!!!

posted 29 Sep 2014, 04:12 by Rosie Twohig

Banteer finish a perfect season in style, with a convincing win over neighbour's Millstreet in the County final, played in Carrigadrohid on Sunday last.
A large crowd travelled see what was the best performance of the season, for this junior team. From the throw in Banteer came out the traps at a blistering pace leaving Millstreet with little time to settle, Banteer got the dream start that no one could have predicted, finding themselves well in control scoring 4-6 inside the first 20 mins, and gaining another 1-4 before the break, leaving it 5-10 to -02 at the half time whistle.
On resumption, the work and commitment the Banteer girls had given to training really started to shine through, leaving it difficult for any come back Milstreet had to come to the fore. Banteer continue to add to their tally, and despite best efforts from Millstreet the daylight between the teams prove to much to close down. Final score 7-14 to 1-8.
This has been a historic year for the club, not only has this team remained unbeaten for their 2014 season, they have now added a county championship title to the county league title they won in June!!!
Full forward Imelda Vaughan was deservingly awarded player of the game for her contribution of 4-1 on the day before the County cup was presented to the Banteer captain Rosie Twohig who thanked everyone who help out with this team in anyway since the team was formed 2 years ago especially to Chairman Donnacha Foley, Secretary Eileen O Donoghue and Treasurer Hillary Lyons, who continuously work hard behind the scenes.

Huge credit is due to the team trainers Donal Roche, Damien Kearney and Angela Murphy, for the hard work they have put into with the junior team this year and achieving such flawless results.

The club would like to that the large crowd that came to Banteer for the homecoming parade and to Tom O Neill for arranging Newmarket pipe band to lead the junior squad through the village.
