The past week has been a tough one for our young footballers. Last week the u14s had a good draw against Fermoy on a score line of 6-7 to both teams thus dividing the spoils. Then on Wednesday night last our u16 football team under The guidance of Michael Kiely travelled to Kiskeam with a good victory over Newmarket already under their belt. However the Kiskeam/Ballydesmond combination proved too strong on the night and the Lyre boys were to go down in this one on a scoreline of 1-6 to 1-12. Then on Saturday last the minor footballers finally got their season going by taking on Killshannig in the Sports field. Here too the lyre team were to come up short, yet there were many positives to take from this game. The Kilshannig outfit were known to be a very strong unit but the lyre boys stuck gamely to their task and fought well to the final whistle. Having a team that is overall a young team means there is much that can be nurtured and there is no better man than Neil O Shea to maximise potential.
