Banteer earn first win away to Tullylease

Banteer started the JAHL with an opening day win against Tullylease. Taking place on St Patrick’s Day, Banteer will be pleased with the 2 point victory against a side that beat them last year in the reverse fixture.

It was Banteer who started brightest, Denis Roche converted a number of frees in the opening quarter, and Teddy Fitzgerald and Damien Kearney adding scores from play. In defence, Richard O’ Connor was orchestrating proceedings, being helped by good work from Stephen Mannix and Colm Coughlan.  Banteer continued to push and Teddy Fitzgerald got in behind the Tullylease defence and took his opportunity really well finding the net. At the other end Tullylease responded with a goal despite a good save from Ross Kiely. Denis Roche found himself with a one on one chance on the stroke of half time and he dually obliged, giving Banteer a 2-09 to 1-05 half time lead.

The second half Tullylease finally got their game going and stole the march on proceedings. Martin Kearney and Denis Roche getting on the score sheet to help hold back the Tullylease charge. The second half was ridden with bad luck as an injury to Brendan Weathers and the dismissal of Eamon O Flynn, for an honest but mistimed pull, Banteer were really all out to hold on for victory. But hold on they did, to secure the victory.
