Banteer never get going against Kilbrin

Hosts Kilbrin got the better of rivals Banteer in a disappointing encounter on Friday evening last. Played in poor underfoot conditions 'twas the visitors that dominated the opening exchanges, but some poor & very casual shooting saw Banteer spurn numerous scoring chances. An understrength Kilbrin side took full advantage of this & a probing long ball from Darren Daly deceived Banteer net minder Kevin Roche & Kilbrin corner forward Stepen O' Reilly duly tapped home the games opening goal & score after 3 mins. Kieran Sheahan pointed a free on 5 mins, so from two lone attacks the home side were now 1-1 to 0-0 ahead, with the visitors spurning countless chances in that time.
Banteer finally began to find their scoring range & six points in 7 mins from Paul Cremin, David Murphy (2,1free) & Denis Roche (2) saw the visitors lead 0-6 to 1-1 inside the opening quarter. Sheahan & the very impressive Minor Garrett Linehan, now operating at wing forward, responded to level matters for the home side. Denis Roche put Banteer ahead again with a neat point before another mistake from Banteer custodian Kevin Roche spilling a free with Kieran Sheahan pouncing on the edge of the square to give KIlbrin a flattering 2-3 to 0-7 lead in a rather forgettable opening half.
Best for Kilbrin were Terry Cantillon, Neil Cronin, who moved from attack to defence due to Gene O' Sullivans forced witdrawal, David O' Sullivan, Linehan & Paul Aherne. While for Banteer Brian O' Keeffe, James Twohig, Denis Mannix & Brendan Withers.
Conditions improved upon the restart with less rain falling & the air becoming milder. Sean Twomey scored the halfs' opening point for Banteer to narrow the gap to the minimum before two more Sheahan points, one from a placed ball, increased the divide to three. Murphy pointed a free for the away side before three superb points from Stephen O' Reilly, Darren Daly & Sheahan in a 3 minute spell sent KIlbrin further in front. Denis Roche responded for Banteer before another trio of points, this time all coming from the stick of Sheahan, including one placed ball, saw Kilbrin lead 2-11 to 0-10 to keep the visitors firmly on the back foot with 10 mins to play. With Paudie O' Callaghan flawless between the posts the visitors found the hosts netminder in superb form & without making any spectacular save of note his display still epitomised Kilbrins assuredness & stomach for battle.
Banteer hitback with a trio of points in the closing 10 mins through a free from Murphy, Eamon O' Flynn & Roche again, but too many wasted scoring opportunities, particularly from placed balls proved to be Banteers undoing.
Best in the 2nd half for Kilbrin were at centre back Daniel Sheahan who was superb, Michael O' Riordan, Tomas O' Mullane & Stephen O' Reilly, obviously Kieran Sheahan too. While for Banteer really only Jamie Sexton, Withers & Stephen Mannix when introduced in the last quarter you could say with any fairness.
