Banteer No Match for Kilbrin

Banteer lost out to a stronger Kilbrin side in this year’s JAHC Final. This game played in fine conditions last Sunday in Millstreet saw Kilbrin lead from pillar to post. Kilbrin started the better but points from Paul Cremin and Eamon O’ Flynn kept Banteer in touching distance, trailing by 5 points after 20 minutes. Banteer fought hard before the break bringing the score back to 0-9 to 0-6 at the short whistle. A long range free from Denis Roche was one of the better scores of the opening half, with Martin Kearney and Paul Cremin getting through a lot of work from open play.
On the resumption the signs from the team in red and white were very encouraging. Within 2 minutes Banteer had the gap back to the narrowest of margins and were pressing hard at this stage. Three points showed Kilbrin’s resilience in weathering this storm. Entering the last 10 minutes the gap was up to 5 points and Banteer were pushing hard for a goal. Kilbrin hovered up in defence, and a breakaway goal ended this match as a contest. Banteer were simply not good enough on the day to get the job done.
Never the less the players can only be proud of the commitment they have given over the long year. A large amount of credit is due to the management, Denis Withers, Dermot O’ Riordan and Noel Kearney for their time, energy and expertise. The team were very well looked after by all club officers, with a special word of thanks to Vicky and Eileen Weathers for all the after training refreshments. The club would also like to acknowledge all the sponsors who got on board this year, without their help the club simply wouldn't function. Brighter days are in store for the club no doubt.
