Banteer pushed all the way by Millstreet

Banteer and Millstreet met in the group stages of the league last Sunday. In a game which was much more than a game of shadowing boxing before the 1st round of the championship, Banteer took an early lead with a Jamie Sexton goal. Millstreet bounced back but Banteer kept the pressure on, thanks to some fine play from Brendan Weathers and Dan Dennehy in defence, Paul Cremin going well in midfield and David Murphy getting the scores up front. Banteer led at the break 1-09 to 0-08. The second half started with Millstreet as the stronger, and only for some wayward shooting would have been closer during this period. Millstreet did close the gap to a point after a 21yard free found its way to the Banteer net. Banteer responded immediately with a goal from David McAuliffe, after some very quick thinking between him and David Murphy. Banteer ran out winners on a score of 2-13 to 1-13.
