Banteer Reach Final in Dramatic Fashion

posted 1 Jun 2015, 08:46 by BanteerLyre GAA

Banteer and Tullylease met in the Semi Final of the JAHL in Kilbrin on Sunday last. A very competitive game, with no more than 3 points separating the teams at any stage.

Banteer opened the scoring with a Tadghy Sexton free, but Tullylease soon responded with 2 points of their own. Pressure from the Banteer forwards forced a Tullylease defender to hand pass the sliothar back to his keeper, who subsequently lost his footing and the ball found its way to the net. Banteer played the opening half with their backs to the wind, and Denis Roche, Damien Kearney and Kevin Tarrant all made the most of the conditions, converting scores in the opening half.

Banteer lead at half time, the score reading 1-08 0-09.

The second half started in much the same vein as the first. Tadghy Sexton with the opening score, this time it was a super point from play. Tullylease began to take a hold of the game and pressing strongly they found scores easier to come by. In fact only for excellent defending from Brian O Keeffe and an excellent save from Kevin Roche, Tullylease would have opened up an even greater margin. A good Kevin Tarrant point and an excellent Denis Roche goal saw Banteer do enough to stay in the hunt. As the game reached its closing stages Tullylease converted their dominance and lead by two points. But for the second game in a row, Banteer found the energy late on to create a goal chance which was fired home with good composure from David Murphy. Banteer defended their slender lead to the final whistle, which saw them win by the tightest of margins. 3-10 to 0-18 the final score. A minutes silence for the late Timmy Moynihan preceded the game. The final is likely to take place on Friday the 12th of June in Lismire where the opponents will be Kilbrin.
