A game played in testing conditions in the Ballinora venue, saw Banteer earn a very spirited win in their debut in this competition. Ballinora started the better getting a goal early in proceedings and lead at the quarter stage 1-3 to 0-3, for Banteer Denis Roche was taking advantage of ill disciple in the opposition defence and Damien Kearney also came up with a fine score. Banteer played the first half with the aid of the elements, their dominance emphasised thanks to a Kevin Barry goal which gave them a good foothold going in at half time. In defence for Banteer Richard O’ Connor was sweeping up well to provide a basis for attack.

On the resumption Ballinora began to grow into the game but found stiff resistance from Hugh O Connor and James McAuliffe in the Banteer defence.
