Ducon Cup Lyre v Boherbue 09/05/2014

posted 11 May 2014, 11:30 by BanteerLyre GAA

Both teams needed a win, Lyre to secure qualification and Boherbue to stay in contention. Conditions were poor with a strong wind and heavy showers.

Lyre started well with an early point and not long after a high ball kicked into the box was knocked in by Keith Mc Geough. Both teams fought hard trying to win kick outs with the strong wind. Boherbue broke away and pulled the goal back from a free man down the wing. It was 1-3 to 1-2. It only took 3 minutes for Lyre to get another goal, this time coming from the boot of Denis Roche who rounded the keeper and a easy tap in followed. Points from Barry Murphy and Kevin Roche. The half time finished with Lyre in the lead. Lyre2-3 Boherbue 1-4.

At the start of the second half Lyre came out looking more focused creating a lot more chances. Lyre were strong in midfield and Denis Roche was on for another goal but Dermot Cremin made a superb save to deny him for his second. The Lyre defence stayed strong making it difficult for Boherbue to stage a late comeback. It finished with Lyre adding on another 2 points securing qualification for the semi-finals of the Ducon Cup. It finished Lyre 2-8 Boherbue 1-7.
