JAFC Lyre v Dromtarriffe 26/04/2014

posted 27 Apr 2014, 13:35 by BanteerLyre GAA
The start of the JAFC got off to a wet start as the venue had to be changed to Banteer due to Millstreet being unplayable.

The conditions were poor through the entire game with heavy showers on and off but that didn't stop it from being an exciting game.

Both teams started well but Lyre got a big advantage when Dromtarriffe had a man sent off in the early stages of the first half but soon after Jamie Sexton received a black card. Neither team were showing signs of pushing on and as it came to the break Lyre had a two point lead. Lyre 0-06; Dromtarriffe 0-04

As the second half started Lyre seemed to be more focused and started to drive on. Points from Denis Roche, David Murphy and Brian O'Driscoll had Lyre 11 points to 6 with 45 minutes gone. Dromtarriffe were not giving up and on the 60 minute, a high ball into the square was knocked in. Three points in it, Lyre struggled to put the ball over the bar with the wides adding up. Just before the end Pa Keeffe scored a screamer of a goal to put Lyre into safety. It finished Lyre 1-13; Dromtarriffe 1-07.
