Lyre Bow Out of Football Championship

Lyre lost out in the quarter final of the county championship last Saturday evening. Lyre got off to a good start with an early Brian O Driscoll free to open the scoring. However this was the first and only time they would lead in the game. Before David Murphy goaled from the rebound of a penalty Lyre found themselves trailing 1 05 to 1 point to leave the score 1 05 to 1 01 to the Barrs. Martin Kearney and Sean Murphy both added points but Lyre trailed 1 08 to 1 03 at the half time whistle.

Upon the resumption Lyre attempted to cut into the lead. Points to Timmie Murphy and Denis Roche got Lyre back in the hunt but the Barrs had the composure to add on points at vital times to keep their lead intact. Further Roche and Murphy points kept Lyre hopes alive but found scores hard to come by. With time running out Lyre had two goal chances but were unable to convert either and the game slipped away as the Barrs saw the game out to win by 4 points.

Huge thanks to the management team of Conor and Maurice Buckley, John Joe Roche and Paudie Kissane for all their hard work and commitment during the year.

The club would like to thank the White Country Inn for providing the panel with a post match meal after the game.
