Lyre come good against 14 man Castle

Lyre defeated Castlemagner in the first round of the junior football championship at a sun drenched Rathcoole last Saturday evening. Lyre settled quickly with Kevin Roche and Timmie Murphy landing early scores. With the scores level Paudie Ryan scored the games only goal with a spectacular effort to give Lyre the lead midway through the first half. Further scores to Tom Vaughan, Kevin and Denis Roche saw Lyre ahead at the break, 1 05 to 05.

Upon the resumption the game remained close with the sides trading scores. Lyre got on the score board through scores for Brian O Driscoll and Vaughan helping to maintain their lead. A superb long range point from Martin Kearney extended the Lyre advantage heading into the final quarter. As time ran out Castlemagner came looking for an equalising score but the Lyre defence held firm to seal the victory.
