Lyre Keep Pushing for Semi Final Spot

posted 24 Apr 2015, 10:41 by BanteerLyre GAA
It had been 3 weeks since Lyre had played and wanted to keep the winning form going. It took 3 minutes of back and forth play until Lyre scored the opening point coming from Stephen Mannix. Dromtariffe responded with 2 points to take the lead in the 5th minute. David Murphy brought things back to level pegging, a few minutes later a high ball into the square from Martin Kearney and poor judgement from the Dromtarriffe keeper meant Lyre were up a goal. Dromtarriffe brought it back to one point but not for long with Timmie Murphy and Brian O'Driscoll adding two well worked points. Just before the half time whistle was blown both Dromtarriffe and Lyre added one more point for good measure, this one coming from Patrick O'Keeffe for Lyre.

Halftime: Lyre1-05; Dromtarriffe 0-05

Dromtarriffe got off to the better start with 2 points in the opening 2 minutes. Lyre struggled to keep the ball in the opposition's half, giving the ball away with poor passing. Dromtarriffe capitalized scoring another 2 points which meant they took the lead for the first time since the opening 10 minutes of the first half. It didn't last long with Paudi Ryan bringing the game back to level pegging and Kevin Tarrant putting Lyre back in the driving seat. As tempers started to show Dromtarriffe fought hard to get the equalizing point. Lyre had the patients to bring it home with Barry Murphy and Paudi Ryan scoring the 2 points which secured another 2 points for Lyre in the league table.

Full-time: Lyre 1-09; Dromtarriffe 0-10
