Lyre 0-06
St. Johns 0-11

The weather couldn't have been better for this Junior B showdown between Lyre and St. Johns. First game of the year and both teams wanted a winning start.

St. Johns shot out of the gates with early chances but couldn't convert. Lyre couldn't seem to stop the runs in the first few minutes but eventually they settled and started to create chances of their own. St. Johns worked the ball well and it resulted in points. Lyre broke through the St. Johns defence several times resulting in scores by Emmett Buckley and Timmie Murphy to level things going into halftime.

Lyre 0-04; St. Johns 0-04

It was all to play for in the second half but with sun beaming down meant the game started to get heated and St. Johns used this and took advantage scoring multiple points. Lyre did their best to come back into it but it wasn't going their way and with the time running out things were looking bleak for Lyre. Two great scores from Barry Murphy in quick concession gave Lyre a small bit of hope but St. Johns replied with scores of their own and push it back to 5 point game. St. Johns claimed the win on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-06.
